Why National Providers Stopped Care Home Group Testing
If you manage a care home and have found it's got harder to get all your residents' eyes tested in one go, you're not imagining it. Several large national domiciliary providers have moved away from group testing days — and it's created a real gap for care homes.

National providers like OutsideClinic have stopped group eye clinics — they now only test individual residents booked by next of kin. This shifts the admin burden onto care home staff, who now have to chase individual consent and bookings resident by resident instead of one scheduled visit covering everyone.
Why this matters
- Residents without next of kin, or with unresponsive family, can end up untested — falling through the cracks entirely
- Staff time is eaten up chasing consent and scheduling one resident at a time instead of a single coordinated visit
- Inconsistent coverage makes it harder to keep accurate eye care records for CQC inspections

What to check with your current provider
If you're not sure whether your current provider still does group visits, it's worth asking directly: do they test all residents in one visit, or only those individually booked? If it's the latter, you likely have residents going untested without anyone noticing.
